Over You
Over You was the first number the band attempted to record on video. The choice of song reflected our answer to a key philosophical question we asked ourselves early in the production process: Were we going to just take the easy way out by cutting our teeth on something safe and dead simple, or should we instead follow the more difficult path of challenging ourselves to produce something modern, something complex, something chaotic, something extraordinary?
If you’re a musician looking to get your feet wet here at our site, splash around for a while with Over You, the delightful little song we provide as sample sheet music.
Over You was not so much written as spontaneously emitted in real-time, punctuation and all, during a sound check at Walt’s Palace of Jam. Even if you don’t care for the song, feel free to use it yourself for microphone testing, a capacity in which it has not been proven to be less than adequate.
The Music
The sheet music package for Over You, as for all our songs except instrumentals, provides a full-length piano part, melody line, lyrics, and guitar chords. The last two are indeed dead simple, as you’ll see below.
Nick: A slightly unusual trait of the piano arrangement is that the seventh scale degree (G#) makes just one appearance, a fleeting cameo at the end of the song. To me the absence of the leading tone makes the part sound somewhat antique and restrained.
